I am starting off quite soon in my Friday Faves with my favourite books written by family and friends (folks I care a lot about). They may not be best sellers but they are well written, good reads, and the authors are connected to me by friendship or blood (or both) so that makes them super-heroes. :)
Mayor of Whim is super cute children's story with lovely illustrations and my friend, Morgan Sanchez is the author. There's a short Youtube read of the book if you want a sneak peek. It really is sweet.
Wasted on the Young was written by my uber-talented little cousin, Matt Abra. He writes screenplays, novels, and used to write amazing Simpson's episodes when he was six years old. This book has a strange concept...a spiraling odd take on the 'I wish I could go back in time and fix this' dream we've all had.
Dancing in the English Style is written by Matt's big Sister, Allison Abra (another poor soul connected to me by blood - and the infamous Allie from my Joanne's Cabin story). I like this write up on Project Muse. It describes the book far better than I could. Her book inspired me to make a swing quilt and I know what inspired her to write this book. Allison is one of my closest cousins and I 'm going to share her secret with my three readers (yes, that's you). In our teens we loved Dead Poets Society. I still do. If I did a top movie series it would be #1. Shortly after DPS, Robert Sean Leonard was in a new movie called Swing Kids. Of course we had to watch it. It's fabulous and the secret is... this movie inspired Allison to do all this book research (well not really but it was a teen spark that stayed with her.) Don't tell her I told you. ;)
