Amari and the Night Brothers

Book cover of B.B. Alston's book Amari and the Night Brothers. A girl with dark messy hair stands over a crystal ball. Swirls of vapour flow around her.
Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B.Alston

Over the past few months I have been reading through quite a few recommended middle school fantasy fiction novels. I meant to review them all here but that didn't happen. Life has been insanely busy with classes, homework, bringing my once non-existent social platform to a subpar social platform (I think I have maybe a dozen weekly readers here and my Instagram page is only slightly more effective. Haha!), writing and editing my manuscript and other writing pieces. This is on top of renovating and selling a house, taking care of a big yard, volunteering, driving countless hours with my teen so she can pass her drivers license (and she did), and everything else that comes with being a spouse, parent, and friend. Unlike many writers, I am not an introvert so my social life does use up many many hours in the week. Haha!

Blah, blah, blah! Enough with my excuses!! I do want to share my love for this book. I have read quite a few magical tween books this year and Amari and the Night Brothers is my favourite so far. The story is fun, youthful, and entertaining from page one on. I loved Amari's mission, her personality + sense of humour, and the Hogwarts style magical camp with every type of supernatural child. There were even a couple surprises that got me and I am usually pretty good at guessing the end story in whodunnit situations. I totally understand why B.B. Alston is so big. I look forward to the rest of Amari's series.
